July 27-July 31: Week 5 of Summer 2015

Click here to check out pictures from Week 5!

Nursery/Kindergarten

The Smurfs had a fun week at camp. On Tuesday, we went to the Bronx Zoo and saw different animals, including giraffes and monkeys. On Wednesday, we had hot dogs at the BBQ and enjoyed Crazy Hat Day. On Thursday, we created beaded bracelets in art and did relay races in J/C. It was a great week for everyone.

6/7 Girls

It was an extremely hot week, but the 6/7 Girls toughed it out through it. They loved going to the Bronx Zoo - especially seeing the red panda. The next day was another successful BBQ, and gymnastics was a treat!

8/9 Girls

We started off the week with ice skating, which was a cool break from the heat. With a number of campers away at NJ Y, Tuesday was an especially relaxed day. The cookout was a hot experience, along with going to Fire Island to see the lighthouse and enjoy a nature walk.

10/11 Girls

We had so much fun showing off our skills on the ice at ice skating, and had a fun educational day at the Fire Island lighthouse. Everyone had a blast. We can't wait till next week.

Swim

Younger, tentative swimmers are becoming more accustomed to swimming in water where they can't stand. Their confidence has increased as some learned to jump in and perform freestyle and backstroke in the 9 feet deep. Other swimmers have been working on diving in and collecting coins from the bottom of the pool.

Art & Jewish Culture

In Art, we've been making plaster masks this week. In Jewish Culture, our Lower Campers became expert challah bakers, while our Upper Campers took part in an IDF training camp, learning what Israeli soldiers go through.

6/7 Boys

On Monday, the Ninja Turtles had a normal day at camp, and on Tuesday, we had a great time at the Bronx Zoo. This Wednesday was a BBQ and the boys enjoyed hot dogs. The 6/7 Boys also had a great time at gymnastics.

8/9 Boys

We started out this week with a great trip to ice skating, which was a great way to cool off on a hot day. On Tuesday, we had a great day back at camp, doing Arts and Crafts and playing in gym. We loved the BBQ at Valley Stream on Wednesday, and loved taking in the great sights from the top of the Fire Island Lighthouse on Thursday.

10/11 Boys

This was the week of the NJ Y overnight, so most of our campers were away for a large portion of the week. Those who stayed back had a great time ice skating and at the Lighthouse.

Tweens

This week, the Tween Titans loved slippin' and slidin' at the ice skating rink. They also enjoyed walking up the steps of the lighthouse on Fire Island. During part of the week, some Tween Titans were on the overnight at the NJ Y, and they had an awesome time! On Friday, the Tween Titans swung, climbed, and glided like the superheroes they are at the Alley Pond Adventure Course. They had a super week!

Drama

First I want to acknowledge the great work the groups did this past week on family day! Thank you for such a great show! We all enjoyed it very much. Fun continues in drama with "tale time" the kids were broken up in to groups of three to four, and acted out short fairytale. We acted out The three little Bears, Jack and the beanstalk, The tortoise and the hare, Goldilocks and the three little bears.
