July 6 - July 10: Week 2 of Summer 2015

Click here to check out pictures from Week 2!

Nursery/Kindergarten

This week we started Gymnastics where we did tumbles.  On Tuesday we went to the Alley Pond Environmental Center. The animals we saw were a turtle, rabbit, and a bird.  Afterwards we went on a nature walk.  We were so excited to go on our second BBQ where we had hamburgers and played in the sandbox

6/7 Girls

This week started out with a calm Monday with some time at the playground.  Tuesday was a fascinating trip to Alley Pond Environmental Center the girls loved petting the animals-especially the bunny!  It was also their first week at Gymnastics and they still can't stop talking about it!

8/9 Girls

On Monday we went on trip to the Bronx Zoo where the girls saw animals from all over the world.  On Tuesday the girls stayed at camp and had Arts and Crafts and Drama.  On Wednesday all the girls were smiling for Picture Day!  On Thursday we went to Rye Playland and had the best day EVER!  On Friday we went to gymnastics for the first time this summer.

10/11 Girls

On Monday we went to the Bronx Zoo and saw giraffes, tigers, and baby gorillas.  Everyone had a blast seeing all the animals and learning more about wildlife.  The highlight of the week was Rye Playland where everyone had a great time going on all the different rides.

Swim

With everyone now understanding what swim group they are assigned to this week we were able to teach everyone to their level.  Also this week everyone learned about the buddy system.

Art & Jewish Culture

This week in Arts and Crafts the lower camp worked on the tropical bird collages, made beaded snakes, and decorated scratch art door hangers.  The upper camp continued working on their Kandinsky and Giacommetti inspired pieces and also designed beaded necklaces and bracelets.

In Jewish Culture this week everyone started to learn Israeli dances.

6/7 Boys

This week we went to Alley Pond Environmental Center. We played home base games and went to teen lounge and we also loved swimming!  For an added bonus we got to go under the sprinklers!

8/9 Boys

Starting off this week we went to the Bronx Zoo.  The kids had a great time looking at cool exhibits like the World of Reptiles and the Wild Asia Monorail.  On Tuesday we had a great day in camp filled with Arts and Crafts and games in the gym.  On Wednesday we went to the cookout and had a fun day outdoors.  On Thursday we went to Rye where the kids had great time going on the rides and roller coasters. What a great second week of camp.

10/11 Boys

Monday we went to the Bronx Zoo where we got to see many animals like lions, deer, and frogs.  Tuesday we were in camp and we had our first Crossfit class.   Wednesday we went to the barbecue where we smiled for Picture Day!  Thursday we went to Rye Playland where the kids loved the Dragon Coaster.

Tweens

This week the campers started Hip Hop and Crossfit where the girls played twister and danced and the boys tested their strength.,  On Thursday we had and awesome time at Rye Playland on all the awesome rides.  Friday was amazing as we got to learn how to do the trapeze at iFly.

Gym

This past week the lower camp enjoyed activitied of Freeze Tag, Kickball and Pindown.  The upper camp played basketball, kickball, and handball. At Valley Stream we played soccer and volleyball/

Drama

This week in drama we reviewed what we learned last week, we went into more detail about the elements that are involved in a drama and we were able to use the new tools we learned to play some cool games. For example we played " who are you?" Which is a game where all the kids get into character with imaginary dress up and they walk around the stage talking and acting like their particular character, introducing themselves and shaking hands. With the younger kids we played " The invisible pocket" each child reaches into his or her own imaginary pocket and takes out something that everyone in the group can use... The kids used great imagination and were able to come with some really neat stuff like bubbles, toothbrushes, beachballs and sunglasses. Way to go team drama!
